With moves to sign Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert completed Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to make it a hat-trick of Southampton transfers as he targets defender Dejan Lovren according to TuttoMercato.

The 24 year old Croatian moved to the south-coast side in an £8.5m switch from Ligue 1 side Lyon and adapted incredibly well to life in the English top tier, marshaling the Southampton defence excellently last term, but a move to a side able to offer Champions League may well tempt the rock solid centre-back.

Rodgers saw the likes of Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure and Daniel Agger all fail to consistently impress alongside ever dependable Slovakian Martin Skrtel and may feel that Lovren is the ideal man for the job.

Southampton have lost the aforementioned Lambert and Lallana as well as left-back Luke Shaw and more exits are likely, not least as former manager Mauricio Pochettino left for Tottenham earlier this summer.

New manager Ronald Koeman has hit work cut out convincing his top performers from leaving and a lot could well depend on whether the Dutchman is offered enough money to re-invest in his squad.
