Having completed a superb season with Fiorentina the 26 year old winger has played a pivotal role in Colombia’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals though his Serie A employers are looking to hold out for as much as €50m (£39m) with Man United’s offer said to have offered €40m (£31m) for the wide-man.

Louis van Gaal has already forked out £60m plus on bringing in Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw from Athletic Bilbao and Southampton respectively, and as such may not be willing to meet the Florence based side’s valuation.

There is however no denying that Man United could do with bringing in a winger who can actually prove a threat in the final third as Nani, Ashley Young and Luis Antonio Valencia did precious little in that regard in 2013/14.

The trio managed just four goals and four Premier League assists between them. Luckily for the club Adnan Januzaj looks a hot prospect and Juan Mata can also clearly make an impact from out wide but a move to bring in another wide-attacker makes a great deal of sense.
