Gunners on verge of wrapping up a deal for Mathieu Debuchy…

It has been widely reported in recent days that Newcastle’s right-back Mathieu Debuchy was on the verge of a £12m move to Arsenal, and the France World Cup ace has strengthened the rumours by removing all references from the Magpies on his Twitter and Facebook profiles.

The Gunners need a new right-back, with stalwart Bacary Sagna having already signed for Premier League champions Manchester City on a free transfer.

Ironically, the man keeping Sagna out of Didier Deschamps’ France starting lineup, Debuchy, will now likely be replacing him at the Emirates as well.

Debuchy is 29-years-old, and prides himself on his ability to get consistently up the right flank and contribute offensively. While he’s occasionally caught out defensively, his work-rate is impressive, and he actually was the highest rated right-back in the whole of Europe according to stats aggregator WhoScored.

The Gunners had been widely linked with Toulouse’s young fullback Serge Aurier, but it now seems like the more experienced Debuchy will arrive instead.
