Barcelona Brand Lionel Messi ‘Unsellable’ But Admit Xavi Could Leave

Barcelona’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu insisted that star man Lionel Messi is ‘unsellable’ as the club look to pair him with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez next season, the Daily Mail reports.

Messi, who is currently playing for Argentina at the World Cup, where has scored four goals en-route to the quarter-finals.

The 27-year-old only recently penned a new deal with the club worth an astonishing £16.3m a year, and Bartomeu reiterated his importance to the side by saying; :As far as I’m concerned Messi doesn’t want to leave. We gave him a new contract not long ago and he’s very happy.”

Bartomeu also hinted that Xavi could be the next star to leave the club, but has not yet decided what his next move will be.

“Xavi has earned the right to decide what he wants to do and we’ll respect it. He’ll come back to the club one day because he has the makings of a great coach.”

Barca are lining up a whopping £72m offer for Liverpool striker Suarez in the coming days, and reports have suggested that talks between the two went well this week.

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre met with Barcelona power brokers Raúl Sanllehí, Toni Rossich and Jordi Mestre, and though nothing was agreed, it is believed there is good grounding for further talks to go ahead.
