Zouma linked up with the Blues during the January window in a £12m move for Saint Etienne, but was subsequently loaned back to Les Verts for the remainder of the season.

He is now set to link up with his Chelsea teammates next week for the first time.

The Blues allowed centre-back David Luiz to join Paris Saint Germain for £50m earlier on in the summer, and they are now said to be on the lookout for somebody that can fill the void left by the popular Brazilian.

However, Jose Mourinho feels that Zouma is not ready for first team action just yet, and will look to ship him out on loan for another season.

Reports this evening suggest Monaco are set to pip Sunderland to a deal as they prepare for Champions League football.

The deal could appeal to Chelsea after they saw Thibaut Courtois excel in the competition following a three-year stint with Atletico Madrid.

Captain John Terry and Gary Cahill are Mourinho’s first-choice pair at the back, but with the Ex-England captain thought to be in his final year with the side Mourinho is thought to be on the lookout for someone to bring into the squad gradually to fill his boots.
