Saints defender to snub pre-season tour.Southampton defender Dejan Lovren could be set to go on strike in an attempt to force through a move away from the club this summer, according to the Daily Echo.

The 24-year-old is desperate to be allowed a chance to join Liverpool before next season, with reports that a £20m move had already been agreed between the two clubs before the Saints then changed their stance on the situation.

The St Mary’s outfit have already sold key duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana to the Merseyside giants in a deal worth a combined £30m, and do not want to lose any more of their best players as they look to prepare for a challenging new season ahead.

However, Lovren will now attempt to force the club to accept an offer for him, by snubbing their upcoming pre-season friendly fixtures and effectively going on strike.

The Croatian international only joined Southampton last summer in a £8.5m deal from Lyon, and has a four-year contract with the club, meaning they are reasonably confident of holding on to him despite interest from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, as well as Liverpool.

In a difficult summer so far for the Saints, young left-back Luke Shaw has also joined Manchester United.
