Arsenal fear Napoli competition in midfielder chase.Arsenal could be set to make a £20m bid for Southampton and France midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin after learning of Napoli’s interest in the player, according to the Daily Express.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with the 24-year-old in recent months as Arsene Wenger appears to be eyeing a new addition in defensive midfield, with the possibility that Mikel Arteta could join Athletic Bilbao.
Schneiderlin’s impressive performances for Southampton have seen him called up to the French national side’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, and he is also attracting plenty of interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.
Arsenal’s local rivals Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the player, while Napoli are also thought to be stepping up their interest in him, which could spark Wenger into action as he hopes to win the race for his signature.
Napoli have also been linked with a host of new signings in the defensive midfield department this summer, with Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons thought to be one of their long-term targets.
Southampton will no doubt prefer to sell a key player to a foreign club at this stage, with the likes of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw all leaving for bigger sides in England in the last couple of months.
