Chelsea Set To Make Third Raid On Atletico Madrid With Signing Of £24m Brazilian Defender

Blues join chase for in-demand centre-back.Chelsea are still hoping to conclude the signings of two more Atletico Madrid players following the £32m signing of Diego Costa, according to the Daily Star.

The Blues have long been linked with a move for £20m left-back Filipe Luis to join alongside Costa, and recent reports suggest they are also chasing the £24m signing of Brazilian centre-back Miranda.

The 29-year-old was one of the best defenders in Europe for much of last season, forming a rock-solid partnership with Diego Godin for Atletico as the unfancied Spanish side won La Liga and reached the final of the Champions League.

Manchester United have also been linked with Miranda in recent times, while Chelsea have seemingly targeted him as an alternative to Porto star Eliaquim Mangala, who looks likely to be heading to Manchester City.

With David Luiz leaving Stamford Bridge in a £50m move to Paris Saint-Germain, Jose Mourinho’s side could be somewhat short of options at the back, with only inexperienced youngster Kurt Zouma coming in to the club so far in this transfer window.

Miranda would be another solid addition to this Chelsea squad, joining the likes of Costa and Cesc Fabregas as the club’s new arrivals ahead of the 2014/15 season.
