The Magpies look set to lose yet another quality performer with the Gunners set to pay an initial £7.8m fee that could rise to £12m as Arsene Wenger looks to replace outgoing defender Bacary Sagna with a move for the man who has replaced him in the French national team starting eleven.

The 28 year old defender has impressed during his 18 months at St James’ Park and will no doubt challenge youngster Carl Jenkinson for the starting berth at the Emirates Stadium.

Prior to moving to the north-east Debuchy enjoyed ten seasons in the Lille first team set-up, winning a Ligue 1 title in 2010/11.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew will be loathed to lose such a quality player but has already set his sights on a possible replacement with Feyenoord’s Daryl Janmaat and Manchester City’s Micah Richards said to be on his wish-list.

Debuchy will of course join a host of fellow countrymen at Arsenal where he will team up with national team colleagues Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud.
