Chelsea’s out of contract defender Ashley Cole will sign a deal with Italian giants Roma, claims respected and reliable journalist Gianluca di Marzio.

According to the reports, the 33-year-old, who has won over caps for England, will confirm a deal with the Serie A club as early as Monday.

Cole lost his place in the Chelsea side last term to Cesar Azpilicueta, but proved with performances against Atletico Madrid and Liverpool towards the end of last season that he’s still capable of performing at the very top level.

Despite this, Jose Mourinho decided against renewing Cole’s contract, meaning the left-back, formerly regarded as the best in the world in his position, is currently unattached.

In fact, many England fans have bemoaned the fact that Cole wasn’t selected as part of Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad, with the Three Lions crashing out embarrassingly early.

No player in football history has won as many FA Cups as Cole, and the veteran defender will now look to pick up further silverware in Italy.
