Barcelona are to offer €88m (£69m) which will trigger the 27 year old’s release clause and will consequently form part of a mouthwatering strike trio alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Liverpool’s American owners were determined to stand firm on their valuation of Suarez regardless of the four month ban he has been handed for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Some may believe that Suarez is worth a larger sum though the offer would represent the third highest fee paid for a Premier League player, beaten only by Real Madrid’s captures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in 2009 and 2013 respectively.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will hope to be handed the majority of funds from Suarez’s sale to reinvest in his squad though the Northern Irish boss has already enjoyed a busy summer having signed Southampton pair Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana as well as German youngster Emre Can.

Suarez issued a public apology for his attack on Chiellini, thought to be on the instruction of Barcelona who were reticent about making their interest in the former Ajax man known until such an act of contrition was performed.

Luis Suarez netted 31 Premier League goals last term and his displays were pivotal to Liverpool’s genuine title challenge and helped secured a long awaited return to Champions League action.
