The Old Trafford side are ready to fork out as much as €50m (£39m) for the 26 year old after his impressive displays in Serie A last term which were followed by some outstanding performances at the World Cup finals.

Van Gaal has been quick to put in an improved offer having reportedly tabled an opening bid of €40m (£32m) according to the Metro.

Fiorentina intelligently bought out the remainder of Cuadrado’s ownership last month from his former club Udinese and are are now free to cash-in on the tricky attacker.

Cuadrado had a stand-out campaign at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, netting 15 goals in all competitions and finishing the campaign as one of Serie A’s leading assist makers, however Vincenzo Montella’s side missed out on a Champions League berth and as such look set to cash-in on one of their prized assets.

There is no denying that Cuadrado would provide a significant improvement on the likes of Ashley Young, Nani and Luis Antonio Valencia so one can see why van Gaal is so keen to bring the Florence based player to the Premier League.
