The 24 year old right-back has a year to run on his Feyenoord contract and as such the Old Trafford side are willing to offer £4m for the Dutch international though the Eredivisie side are said to be holding out for £7m.

Newcastle United are also sniffing around the full-back, with Alan Pardew seeing Janmaat as the ideal man to replace Arsenal bound Mathieu Debuchy.

One imagines Janmaat would prefer a move to unite with van Gaal at Man United and the talented wide-man could well prove to be a better defensive option than the likes of Rafael, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

Janmaat has been a regular in World Cup action this summer and has looked calm and assured and has certainly outgrown his De Kuip side.

Feyenoord signed Janmaat from Heerenveen two year ago and he was key to the club’s securing of a Champions League berth though the subsequent departure of manager Ronald Koeman to Southampton will only further fuel the possibility of a summer move to the Premier League.
