Man United winger Ashley Young has been strongly linked with a summer Old Trafford exit with a move back to his former club Aston Villa being a possibility according to the Daily Mail.

It would be fair to suggest that 28 year old England man Young hasn’t proven a success since his move to Man United back in June 2011 and incoming boss Louis van Gaal may be ready to cash-in on the attacker in order to help finance moves in the transfer market and as such a move back to Villa Park may appeal to the wide-man.

Young has proven ineffective in the final third, especially in the last two seasons when he has managed to rack up just two goals and four assists in 39 Premier League appearances.

One wonders if Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has the funds to make a competitive offer for Young, who cost Man United £17m.

Man United may well accept a fee lower than that which they paid though a move to Villa may be trumped by Swansea City and Newcastle United, with both sides also said to be keen on landing Young.

A move away from Man United may be best for all concerned and could offer Young the chance to re-ignite his flagging career and could lead to a return to the national team set-up.
