Serie A runners-up AS Roma are set to sign young American full-back DeAndre Yedlin from the Seattle Sounders, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport, before loaning the 20 year-old back to his hometown club to continue his rapid development.
Yedlin burst onto the world stage during the USA’s epic 2-1 defeat to Belgium in the last sixteen of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, coming on as a substitute early on for the injured Fabian Johnson and impressing with his raw pace as he attacked the right flank from deep.
The Seattle-born player had been linked with a move to Premier League side Liverpool by the Mirror, but it looks as though it is Rudi Garcia and Roma who are going to make the leap of faith when it comes to Yedlin.
Yedlin is not, however, the only full back expected to arrive in the Italian capital in the near future – with Garcia also looking likely to secure a huge deal for former Chelsea and Arsenal left back Ashley Cole on a free transfer.
With, potentially, the likes of Cole and also experienced Brazilian full back Maicon to work with, the opportunity to hone his craft at Rome’s Olympic Stadium is likely to be one that Yedlin would find difficult to turn down.
