Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is plotting a major surprise for Arsenal fans this summer. The 64-year old is not generally renowned for his swift transfer activity, but he could sign as many as 3 big players for a combined fee of around £60 million, reports the Telegraph.

With Arsenal reportedly closing in on a £30 million capture of Alexis Sanchez and an £8 million deal for Mathieu Debuchy, Wenger has now moved on to try and acquire his long term target in Bayer Leverkusen’s highly rated enforcer Lars Bender. Arsenal had a bid in the region of £19 million reportedly rejected last season for the 25-year old, but Wenger is determined to land his man this time around, and is expected to launch a bid in excess of £20 million.

Arsenal desperately need an enforcer of the calibre of Bender to take their title challenge to the next level, and Wenger is keen on rope in the German international as a long term alternative for 32-year old Mikel Arteta.
