Samuel Eto’o may be joining his former Chelsea teammate Ashley Cole at AS Roma, according to the Daily Mail, with the report suggesting that the Cameroon international is in talks with the Serie A club over a deal at the Olympic Stadium.
The experienced striker has form in Serie A – he was part of the Inter Milan side under Jose Mourinho that lifted the Champions League title in stunning fashion.
Relations soured with the Portuguese boss last season, however, after a secret recording of Mourinho questioning Eto’o’s age was leaked.
AS Roma finished as runners-up in Serie A last season, but adding Eto’o to the already signed Ashley Cole would indicate just how seriously the club are taking sustaining a genuine challenge to title winners Juventus next season.
French manager Rudi Garcia enjoyed a fine first season and, as long as they keep hold of the likes of Miralem Pjanic and Gervinho, will be expecting to do the same again next season.
Eto’o will have plenty of competition for places in the Roma attack next season, with Garcia often favouring just one genuine centre forward and the likes of Francesco Totti, Mattia Destro and Marco Borriello already being at the club.
