Swansea City Close In On Bargain World Cup Star

Ecuador winger Jefferson Montero set to join the Swans for just £4 million.

Swansea City are set to secure the impressive bargain capture of Ecuador winger Jefferson Montero, with the Mirror reporting that Garry Monk is ready to meet his club Morelia’s £4 million asking price.

The report also suggests that West Ham United and Sunderland have been interested in signing the lightning quick wide player, but it appears as though Swansea have won the race to bring him to the English Premier League.

The 24 year-old has enjoyed a varied career, enjoying great success with Ecuadorian sides Emelec and Independiente del Valle before earning himself a move to Spanish side Villarreal.

Things didn’t really go to plan for Montero in La Liga, however, as he spent more time on loan with Real Betis and Levante than he did in the colours of the club who had bought him.

Montero eventually chose to return to the America, signing for Morelia in the Mexican Premier League where he has enjoyed a fruitful two years.

He would represent a fine signing for Swansea, who are looking to add more attacking options to provide the chances for star striker Wilfried Bony, who enjoyed a fine first season in the Premier League despite a sometimes questionable supply line from the Swans’ midfield.
