Man City midfielder Yaya Toure is reportedly set on leaving his Etihad Stadium side this summer and the Daily Express surprisingly claims that the Ivory Coast international is open to a move to join Liverpool.

The 31 year old midfield powerhouse is seemingly ready to quit Man City after the club’s behaviour towards him, firstly in relation to failing to acknowledge his birthday and then, more importantly, denying him an opportunity to spend time with his dying brother Ibrahim.

One imagines that the ‘hook’ to any story linking Yaya Toure to Anfield is the presence of his older brother Kolo at the Merseyside club and whilst that may seem like a fairly spurious claim perhaps it’s not entirely implausible.

A move to a resurgent Liverpool side who ran Man City close for the Premier League title last season and are set for a long awaited Champions League return is a possibility but it’s a move that would certainly set the club’s American owners back a fairly hefty sum.

One imagines Man City wouldn’t allow the player to leave ‘on the cheap’ and his wage demands would certainly require Liverpool to make him the player’s top-earner, though perhaps such a move would be made all the more likely if Luis Suarez, as expected, is sold for a massive sum to Barcelona.

Though former Barcelona man Yaya Toure is in the latter stages of his career the strong midfielder is arguably in the best form of his career, his 20 goal Premier League haul being pivotal to Manuel Pellegrini side’s domestic title triumph.

Brendan Rodgers would surely be ready to temporarily scrap his youthful transfer policy to push for such an acquisition.
