New United boss Louis Van Gaal is a big fan of the Chilean string puller and has made him his number one transfer priority with the intention of building his side around him.
The Serie A side told United to forget about signing the player last week, but Van Gaal’s men have since held talks with Vidal’s agent, Fernando Felicevich.
The held talks with United officials on the phone on Monday evening and Gazzetta dello Sport say the negotiations are ‘well underway’ and will continue on Tuesday afternoon.
Van Gaal apparently values the 27-year-old at £40m, but is reportedly willing to go as high as £50m in order to bring him to Old Trafford.
Vidal has been in explosive form for Juventus over the past two seasons, and has made no secret of his desire to try his luck in the Premier League.
Vidal was also one of the stars of Chile’s illuminating World Cup campaign this summer, and starred even though he was only half fit following an operation on his knee.
