Liverpool striker Luis Suarez will complete a £75 m transfer to Barcelona within the next 48 hours, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The two teams have been locked in negotiations over the structuring of the deal, with the Spanish giants wanting to stagger their payments over a period of time, rather than a paying a large lump sum up front.

Liverpool would prefer to receive the majority of the fee upon completion of the transfer, allowing them to complete moves for several of their own targets, including £19.8 m Benfica winger Lazar Markovic.

The 27-year-old forward, who scored 31 Premier League goals for the Reds last season, has remained in his native Uruguay after being sent home from the World Cup in disgrace for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

It is understood that he is currently undergoing his Barcelona medical in South America, with club staff having already flown to the continent to check on the back injury sustained by Brazilian star Neymar, which ruled him out of yesterday’s World Cup semi-final defeat against Germany.

Club officials at Liverpool have claimed that a fee is still yet to be agreed, and that nothing will happen before Friday at the very earliest.

However, a deal seems inevitable with the Reds reportedly eyeing up moves for several potential replacements, as they look to build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title for a second successive year, while also coping with a return to Champions League football.
