Keeping their apparent sources under wraps, the Spanish paper believes to have the inside track on Luiz’s thought process behind deciding to make his £50m move from west London to the French capital.

And it is believed that the main reason for his departure was his unhappiness at playing under Jose Mourinho, and has left in order to escape the Portuguese tactician and play more regular football.

It’s reported: ”One season alongside Jose Mourinho was enough to make it clear that [Luiz] would not be happy with the Portuguese coach. Their relations deteriorated as the months went by, until cohabitation became unbearable, if not nonexistent. David Luiz, by his nature, needs to live in a happy environment, and that was not possible with Mourinho.”

Luiz cut a happy figure when playing for his national side this summer, and bar the semi-final hammering at the hands of Germany on Tuesday evening he can reflect on a successful tournament.
