Premier League giants to fight it out for yet another player.

Liverpool and Arsenal are set to continue battling it out for South Americans as they prepare to step up their respective pursuits of FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez, according to the Metro.

Both clubs had been competing for the signing of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez earlier this month, with the Gunners seemingly coming out on top, but they are now set to turn their attentions toward the Colombian hit man.

The 27-year-old striker has scored 60 goals in just 91 games for Porto and has impressed in Brazil after filling in for the injured Radamel Falcao at this summer’s tournament.

Martinez has been high on the wish lists of both Brendan Rodgers and Arsene Wenger, and both managers will look to activate his £35m release clause before the new Premier League campaign kicks off next month.

Rodgers is keen to add more firepower to his attack in the wake of Luis Suarez’s imminent move to Barcelona, and he has targeted Martinez as the ideal man to compliment Daniel Sturridge’s style of play.

Losing Sanchez to a rival club will be a bitter blow to Rodgers, whose style would have most certainly fit in with the club’s ethos, but he may have the chance to exact some form of revenge by landing Martinez instead.
