Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker would still prefer a move to Liverpool, despite having held transfer talks with both QPR and Crystal Palace.

The Daily Mirror has claimed that Caulker is still considering his options, with the ambitious defender, who knows Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers from his time on loan at Swansea City, making clear that he would jump at the chance to play Champions League football.

QPR manager Harry Redknapp is also well aware of Caulker’s talents, having handed him his senior debut and breakthrough during his time with Tottenham.

The England international is certain to leave Cardiff this summer, following their relegation from the Premier League, and the Welsh side are anxious to get the deal done soon so that they can use the £8m buyout fee to purchase their own targets.

Newly promoted QPR are believed to be the favourites for Caulker’s signature, with Redknapp ready to offer him the opportunity to play alongside former England and Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand.

Southampton are also monitoring the situation, as they prepare for the likely departure of Dejan Lovren – who has been linked with a £25m move to Liverpool.

Caulker was one of the few bright sparks of a disappointing season for the Bluebirds last year, as he played every minute of his team’s Premier League campaign and also chipped in with five crucial goals.
