Spanish sides also eyeing Liverpool target.Liverpool look set to face competition from four Spanish teams, including champions Atletico Madrid, in the chase for Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri, according to Fichajes.com.
The Swiss international, who impressed for his country at this summer’s World Cup, has not managed to establish himself as a regular since moving to the Allianz Arena from FC Basel back in 2012, and looks set to be on the move this summer.
Liverpool had looked for some time like the favourites to land the highly-rated 22-year-old, but Atletico may now be leading contenders to bring him in as they step up their interest.
Meanwhile, the likes of Valencia, Sevilla and Villarreal are also mentioned as being keen on signing him, in what should prove an intriguing transfer battle for a player who may prove to be an astute signing if he can regain his best form.
With Atletico already raiding Bayern for the signing of Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic, this would make it a double swoop from Diego Simeone’s side as they look to rebuild for next season after losing some key players from their title-winning squad of 2013/14.
Mandzukic has been brought in to replace Chelsea new-boy Diego Costa, while Shaqiri could be brought in as Turkish winger Arda Turan attracts interest from other top clubs.
