The best of Twitter’s reactions to Arsenal’s signing of Alexis Sanchez today.
Arsenal have completed the signing of Chile and Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, who becomes perhaps the most significant Premier League transfer to be made so far this summer.
The Chilean had a fine World Cup, impressing as one of the heartbeats of a side who caught the eye of many with their determined and attractive displays in Brazil, despite crashing out on penalties, one of which Sanchez missed, in the second round.
Liverpool had been linked with a move for Sanchez, possibly as part of the deal taking Luis Suarez to the Nou Camp, but Arsenal fans were delighted as their team emerged as the leading contenders for Alexis.
Twitter was unsurprisingly awash with reactions to the news, with the overwhelming majority being positive for the Gunners, with many impressed at Wenger’s ability to attract the player despite his favourite summer pastime:
Alexis Sanchez is a Gooner. Arsene signed him whilst playing beach volleyball

Both past and present footballers were impressed by the signing, as Sanchez becomes the club’s second most expensive capture of all time after his new teammate Mesut Ozil:

Some couldn’t resist having a dig at Liverpool, who Sanchez is reported to have turned down in favour of a move to the Emirates Stadium:

Phil Thompson is very low tonight. He did not see that coming. He’d already announced that Liverpool had signed Alexis Sanchez. — Wenger Knows Best (@wengerknowsbest) July 10, 2014
Even Manchester United weren’t safe, with many comparing the fees paid for Sanchez and young United defender Luke Shaw:
At £30m, Sanchez cost the same as Luke Shaw. Just let that sink in for a bit… #AFC
