Arsenal Open Negotiations Over Signing Of £8m French International Striker

Gunners to keep spending.Arsenal hope to follow up their signing of Alexis Sanchez with a deal to bring in Loic Remy from Queens Park Rangers for £8m, according to the Independent.

Although the Gunners have just splashed out a fee of around £32m to sign the Chile international from Barcelona, Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in further attacking players, with Remy his top target to provide an alternative to Olivier Giroud upfront.

Giroud performed well for the north London side last season, but a lack of backup in the central striker role left Wenger’s side short of options if Giroud hit a bad spell or struggled with fatigue or injury.

Remy has long been linked with a move to Arsenal, and his fine record in the Premier League with QPR and with Newcastle United in a loan spell last season has persuaded Wenger to step up his interest in him.

It is claimed that Arsenal have opened talks with QPR over the transfer, with Remy himself still needing to agree personal terms to seal a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Still, it has previously been reported that the Frenchman would choose the Gunners over other interested clubs, so they should be favourites to get him if talks progress well.
