The Ligue 1 giants will make a bid of around £47.5m for the Argentine World Cup finalist as they prepare to strengthen their star-studded squad for next season, and their financial power may prove too much for United.
Di Maria is seemingly available for the right price this summer as Real hope to raise funds from his sale to pursue some other big-name targets, including Colombian World Cup star James Rodriguez, currently of AS Monaco.
United had emerged as leading contenders to snap up the 26-year-old in this transfer window, but it is now thought that they will focus their attention on Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal after admitting defeat in the race for Di Maria.
After a superb season at club level and a good showing to help Argentina to the final of this year’s World Cup, Di Maria is somewhat unfortunate to find himself on the transfer list, and should make a top class signing for whoever lands him ahead of next season.
PSG hope they will be the ones to bring him in, as they look to win a third Ligue 1 title in a row and hope to improve in the Champions League in 2014/15.
