Liverpool will receive an £8 million offer from Sunderland for the services of their 23-year old striker Fabio Borini, reports the Daily Mail.

The Italian striker impressed on loan at Wearside last season, and Black Cats’ boss Gus Poyet wants him to make a permanent switch.

Liverpool signed Borini for around £10 million in the summer of 2012 from Serie A giants Roma, but the Italian has never really made a big enough impact at Anfield to keep his place within the first team.

His 10 goal loan stint at Sunderland could count for little at Liverpool as they plot big forward signings this summer in preparation for the Champions League.

Having agreed to sell star forward Luis Suarez to Barcelona, though, it remains to be seen whether manager Brendan Rodgers would want to have Borini as a backup forward in his squad for next season.

Should Liverpool eye bigger targets, though, they might want to take the £8 million offer for him and make better use of the money elsewhere.

Sunderland, meanwhile, are hoping to avoid another season flirting with relegation and will look to spend in order to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
