Arsenal have reached agreement with Real Madrid over the signing of midfielder Sami Khedira with the north London side meeting the La Liga side’s valuation of the German international.

CaughtOffside understands that the Gunners will pay £23m for the 27 year old and have offered the former Stuttgart man a four year contract and agreed personal terms with the Bernabeu star.

Khedira has just a year to run on his current Real Madrid contract and as such the Spanish giants were more than aware that his value would significantly decrease once the current transfer window came to a close, leaving the very real possibility of losing the midfield battler on a free transfer next summer.

Chelsea are also said to be keen on Khedira, with Blues boss Jose Mourinho having been the man who brought the player to the Spanish capital back in July 2010, but Arsenal are thought to have won the race to bring in the tough tackler.

A key factor in the successful chase has been Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, who is a close friend of Khedira’s, whilst the presence of other fellow countrymen such as Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker and Serge Gnabry, is sure to have assisted in the club’s pursuit.

Khedira missed most of last season through injury but returned in the latter stages of the campaign and playing his part in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph over city rivals Atletico before helping Germany to the World Cup final with a series of strong performances in Brazil.

Such a capture may lead to veteran Mikel Arteta leaving Arsenal this summer or at the very least playing a much more limited role in Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven after a none to convincing season last term.

With terms agreed with club and player Arsene Wenger may well be ready to announce the deal on Monday morning following Khedira’s involvement at the World Cup, with a medical penciled in for early next week.
