Magpies look to raid France… again.

Check in to Third Place Playoff: Brazil vs Netherlands

Newcastle United are close to signing AS Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere in a £6m deal, according to the Daily Mail.

The national newspaper also claim that the Magpies are hopeful of landing Montpellier HSC midfielder Remy Cabella for £9.5m.

Newcastle appear to have seen off competition from West Bromwich Albion to sign Riviere, 24.

Riviere, who has represented France at five different youth levels, can play as a winger, in attacking midfield or up front.

In 30 Ligue 1 games last season, he scored 10 goals and provided two assists.

Cabella, also 24, is a senior international, having made his full France debut in a 4-0 win over Norway in May.

He was named on the standby list for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, but he was not called upon.

Like Riviere, Cabella can operate in various positions in attack and midfield.

He scored 14 goals and provided five assists in 37 league games for Montpellier last term.

Newcastle’s squad already features many Frenchman, including Massadio Haidara, Moussa Sissoko, Sylvain Marveaux, Mehdi Abeid, Hatem Ben Arfa, Gabriel Obertan, Yoan Gouffran and Mathieu Debuchy.

However, Debuchy is rumoured to be close to joining Arsenal.
