Liverpool Close to Signing £20m Striker as Brendan Rodgers Prepares to Trigger Release Clause

Liverpool are close to completing a deal to sign Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony with the Daily Express claiming that Anfield side are ready to trigger the player’s release clause.

Boss Brendan Rodgers feels that the Ivory Coast international could help to fill the void left by Luis Suarez’s departure to Barcelona and has the funds from said sale to invest in his capture.

Bony netted 25 goals in his debut season at the Liberty Stadium and then went on to star in the World Cup finals and is now on a well deserved break.

Rodgers is ready to stump up the £20m it would take to trigger the forward’s release clause and is ready to raid his former south Wales employers.

Roddgers has already successful signed Saints pair Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert (£4m) as well as Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can.

Deals are also pending for Benfica winger Lazar Markovic Lille’s striker Divock Origi.

Liverpool are also said to be interested in Bony’s Swansea City team-mate Ben Davies, who could perhaps be seen as a viable replacement for Spaniard Jose Enrique, who was the club’s first choice left-back last term before injured ruled him out for most of the campaign.
