Barcelona have wisely included a ‘bite-clause’ into Luis Suarez’s contract as they seek to minimize any potential blow-back from another unsavoury incident involving the Uruguayan.

The Daily Mirror claims that the 27 year old will lose as much as £3m of his annual £10m salary if he attempts to bite an opponent.

Suarez has signed a five year contract worth a reported £200k a week so Barcelona are clearly keen to make sure that they do not lose the player to any possible suspension, with a four month ban still in place, and will hope that such a financial penalty will persuade the Uruguayan to not add to his growing list of misdemeanours.

The new signing is Barcelona’s fourth highest-paid player at the club behind Lionel Messi, Neymar and Andres Iniesta, and is expected in the city on Tuesday ahead of an unveiling on Wednesday before the former Liverpool man goes on holiday.

The Catalan side are hopeful they can see Suarez’s current ban overturned, or at least reduced, though may well have to plan without him until late October as it currently stands.

Suarez has now been banned on three occasions for biting, serving a seven match ban whilst at Ajax after he attacked PSV’s Otman Bakkal and then a ten game ban for doing likewise to Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic followed by this latest World Cup incident when he bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.
