Arsenal’s move to sign Sami Khedira could be getting closer, with Spanish publication Sport claiming that the German midfielder has agreed a four-year contract with the club.

Reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid have allowed the former Stuttgart man to hold talks with the Gunners over a move this summer, with the club keen to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year when his contract expires.

Khedira has been at the Bernabeu since 2010, winning La Liga in 2012 and the Champions League this season before his World Cup triumph with Germany this summer.

The 27-year-old has become widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe and will represent another hugely ambitious signing by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has brought in Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona as well this summer, following on from the signing of another German star from Real Madrid last year in Mesut Ozil.

Despite rumoured interest from Chelsea, it is thought that Khedira has been keen to join Arsenal and work under Wenger, as well as link up with his international team mates Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker.

It is claimed that a move could be finalised today, which should cost Arsenal around £23m.
