The latest development in the transfer saga of Mario Balotelli has arrived, with the Daily Mirror claiming that the wantaway Italian striker is now set to stay at AC Milan, after being included in the club’s pre-season tour.

The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with moves to both Arsenal and Liverpool amongst others this summer, but will be jetting off to the US next week as he seeks to stake a claim for his spot in Filippo Inzaghi’s new look side.

Balotelli endured a disappointing campaign with the Rossoneri, a fact that sparked talk of a move away from the San Siro ahead of next season. He also found life difficult at this summer’s World Cup, despite scoring the winning goal against England in his country’s opening game.

Indeed both Arsenal and Liverpool amongst others were strongly linked with president Silvio Berlusconi going as far as suggesting he nearly sold him to England prior to the World Cup.

Recent reports in Italy even suggested that Milan were prepared to accept bids of around £14m for their bad boy striker, having cut their asking price from an initial £25m.

But Inzaghi has squashed those rumours today, saying: Mario will return with willingness on the 21st (of July) and will come with us to the United States.”

Balotelli scored 14 goals in 30 league appearances for Milan last season but the club finished eighth in Serie A and will not play in Europe in the 2014-15 campaign.
