Liverpool could be set to encounter a new difficulty in their pursuit of Spanish left back Alberto Moreno from Sevilla, with reports from Spanish newspaper AS suggesting that La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are ready to make their move for the player.
Moreno has been one of Brendan Rodgers’ key transfer targets this summer, with the Reds seemingly returning to their pursuit of the player after receiving a cash boost from the Luis Suarez sale, after their previous interest seemed to end due to the fee being demanded by the Europa League holders.
They are not the only major European club chasing a left back, however, with Diego Simeone seemingly now keen to make Moreno his replacement for Brazilian Filipe Luis, who has signed for Chelsea.
Whilst AS report that Atletico are set to lodge a bid lower than that of Liverpool’s, they do suggest that the La Liga champions could beef up their offer by including right back Javier Manquillo and striker Leo Baptistao.
Teenage right back Manquillo has been linked with a move to Arsenal, whilst Brazilian forward Baptistao scored one goal during a loan spell with Sevilla’s bitter local rivals Real Betis during the last La Liga campaign.
