Arsenal could be set to follow up their signing of Mathieu Debuchy and make a second raid on Newcastle United this summer with a move for Dutch World Cup goalkeeper Tim Krul, CaughtOffside understands.

Arsene Wenger is known to be in the market for a new signing in goal this summer as he eyes a quality replacement for Lukasz Fabianski, who left on a free transfer to Swansea City, to compete with current first choice Wojciech Szczesny.

Some big names, including the likes of Iker Casillas, Guillermo Ochoa and David Ospina have all been linked with the Gunners so far this summer due to the club’s shortage of options in that position, but it now looks as though Krul could become their main target between the sticks.

The 26-year-old has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League for some time now, and has been targeted by big clubs such as Atletico Madrid in recent times as speculation grows that he could look to leave St James’ Park for a new challenge.

Krul was also a surprise star of this summer’s World Cup, making the most of a brief but exciting cameo in the Netherlands’ quarter-final clash against Costa Rica, when he was brought on at the end of extra time purely to feature in the penalty shoot-out for Louis van Gaal’s side.

The Dutchman was the hero for his country, though he did not feature again in the tournament, and now he could be set for a big move to Arsenal if the two clubs can agree a deal.

Newcastle will no doubt be desperate not to lose another of their key players to Arsenal, with the transfer of 28-year-old right-back Debuchy confirmed yesterday, but the Gunners may be able to tempt them with offers in the region of £15m.

The Magpies have had to sell before they can buy in recent times, and also lost Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint-Germain back in January, though he has since been replaced by the exciting signing of Remy Cabella from Montpellier.

Arsenal are not known for raiding other Premier League clubs for new players, but it is thought that Krul would be high on his list of targets if he were to be made available, though the likes of Casillas and Ochoa will still be considered as well.
