In one of the summer’s more bizarre transfer stories, the Daily Star have reported that Manchester City’s superstar midfielder Yaya Toure has rejected the offer of moving across the city to join bitter rivals United.

Ivory Coast international Toure is reportedly unsettled at the City of Manchester Stadium for a variety of reasons, including the club’s failure to celebrate his birthday adequately and them also not giving him a leave of absence when his late brother was in hospital.

It is looking more and more likely that the former Barcelona man will leave City this summer – but a move to Old Trafford wasn’t one that had ever been mentioned.

The report suggests that chiefs at United caught wind of Toure’s desire to leave their rivals and were keen to complete a £40 million deal, but Toure is believed to have informed them that he has no interest in the move.

The player is believed to be keen on leaving the Premier League altogether and remains hopeful that Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain will make an approach for him.

Toure has been a key player in City’s rise to the top of English football and ending last season as the country’s highest scoring midfielder.
