City flop a surprise target for Atletico.
Atletico Madrid have been linked with a surprise move for Manchester City outcast Jack Rodwell this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The injury-prone 23-year-old has had a lot of rotten luck with his fitness over the years, despite emerging as one of the most promising young talents during his time at previous club Everton, where he attracted plenty of interest from big clubs before being snapped up by City in 2012.
Rodwell has only gone on to make 26 appearances in two seasons for City, and may be offloaded this summer as the club look for more reliable options in the middle of the park, and the former England international may have a surprise suitor from Spain.
Atletico are in the market for new additions after having their title-winning squad raided this summer, with two key players in Diego Costa and Filipe Luis both leaving to join Chelsea, while more could follow.
It is hard to see exactly where Rodwell would fit into this Atletico side, but Diego Simeone may be sensing an opportunity to land a player on the cheap and take the chance to revive his career at the Vicente Calderon, as he has done with several players in the past.
