Everton close to pulling off major coup.

Romelu Lukaku’s three-year association with Chelsea could be over by the end of this week, according to the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old Belgium striker, who joined the Blues from Anderlecht for a fee in the region of £18m, looks likely to complete a permanent move to Everton with the next 48 hours.

Lukaku is rated very highly by Everton manager Roberto Martinez, having scored 16 Premier League goals during a loan spell with the Toffees last season.

Everton are due to return to England from their pre-season training camp in Austria this weekend and securing Lukaku’s signature appears to be top of Martinez’s agenda.

Atletico Madrid were thought to be keen on Lukaku, but talk of a move to La Liga has cooled as Diego Simeone is now looking at other targets.

Wolfsburg and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the big frontman, but he enjoyed his time at Everton and is willing to return Goodison Park.

Martinez is stepping up his pursuit of Lukaku after failing to sign Demba Ba, who left Chelsea to join Besiktas on Thursday.

Lukaku has made 15 first-team appearances for Chelsea, including four starts. He has yet to score for the London club.
