Blues told to meet player’s release clause.
Chelsea have been told they can sign a third player from Atletico Madrid this summer if they meet the £23m release clause fee of Brazilian defender Miranda, according to AS.
As found by 101 Great Goals, the print edition of the Spanish paper reveals Atletico’s demands for the Brazilian centre-back on their front page today, with Chelsea likely to fail with an initial bid of around £19.7m.
With David Luiz making the £50m switch to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for new signings in defence, and has seemingly identified Miranda as one of his top targets, meaning he could be set to join former team-mates Diego Costa and Filipe Luis in moving to Stamford Bridge in this transfer window.
In an additional blow, Chelsea have also brought back promising young goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from the Spanish champions after the player spent three seasons on loan at the Vicente Calderon.
The likes of Miranda, Courtois and Luis were all major players in Atletico’s title win last season, helping make Diego Simeone’s side the rock-solid and hard-to-beat side that won the hearts of neutrals all around Europe, as they also made an incredible run to the Champions League final.
