Southampton will look to bring in Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar if they fail to retain the services of Liverpool target Dejan Lovren according to the Metro.

The St Mary’s side have seen a host of talents follow former manager Mauricio Pochettino to Saints exits and Ronald Koeman is keen to buck the trend by looking to bring in further summer signings of his own having already brought in Eredivisie goal machine Graziano Pelle.

Experienced Dutch international Vlaar may be keen on a possible move to the south-coast club after a hugely impressive series of displays at the World Cup finals though one imagines Paul Lambert wouldn’t be keen on losing his club captain.

Southampton have already turned down a £20m bid for Croatian international Lovren though an improved bid may be tough to ignore and as such it’s wise for Koeman to target his fellow countryman.

The likes of Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert have already left Southampton and more may follow and Koeman will hope to be handed the lion’s share of the funds accrued from player sales so as to balance out the loss of the club’s top talents.
