Liverpool have confirmed the departure of Spanish striker Iago Aspas on a season-long loan deal to La Liga side Sevilla on their official website.

The former Celta Vigo man only spent one season at Anfield, and failed to impress with just one goal in 15 appearances in all competitions after the club spent around £7m on signing him that summer.

Although the Reds have also sold star player Luis Suarez this summer, there had been little to suggest that that would open up an opportunity for Aspas to feature more regularly in Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, and he will instead look to impress with Europa League winners Sevilla.

A move for Aspas to return to the Spanish top flight had looked like being in the works for some time, but the deal was finally confirmed today.

It has been a busy transfer window for the Merseyside giants so far, with players mostly coming into the club despite the high-profile departure of Suarez, and more signings still expected.

Liverpool have brought in big names such as Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic, while the likes of Loic Remy and Dejan Lovren are also widely expected to arrive at Anfield.
