The agent of Ajax defender Daley Blind has strongly hinted that his client could be close to joining Barcelona this summer, according to Sport.

The 24-year-old was a stand-out performer for the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup, showing great ability as a left-back, though he can also operate as a defensive midfielder, and he is now thought to be high in demand.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with the versatile Dutchman, but look to be facing increasing competition from Barca for his signature, with his agent admitting that a move to the Nou Camp could soon become a reality for the player.

Ajax manager Frank de Boer has pleaded with Blind to stay for at least one more season, but his agent Rob Jansen has claimed that there are many clubs tracking him in this transfer window.

“There are a lot clubs interested in Daley. We must wait and see what happens when the market begins to move,” Jansen said.

When asked specifically about interest from the Catalan giants, he added: “At the moment there is nothing concrete, but today’s rumours could be tomorrow’s reality.”

Barcelona have already made one of the signings of the summer with their £75m move to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool, and defensive players are now thought to be on their agenda after some disappointing performances in that department last season.
