Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is keen to continue his summer spending and has earmarked moves for Tottenham winger Andros Townsend and Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey according to The Journal.

The Magpies have already brought in Ayoze Pérez, Jack Colback, Siem de Jong, Remy Cabella, Emmanuel Rivière and Daryl Janmaat but appear to be chasing further acquisitions.

Pardew may see 23 year old England man Townsend as a very useful wide-attacking option and given the injury and form issues the youngster has suffered over the past year a fresh challenge may tempt attacker.

Former Liverpool man Shelvey had a superb first season at the Liberty Stadium but may be considering a Swansea City exit given that Michael Laurdup has departed and Pardew may see the 22 year old as an ideal replacement for Yohan Cabaye, who’s January sale to PSG led to Newcastle United’s season taking a real nosedive.

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley appears happy to hand out a decent sum in transfer funds and Pardew will do well to invest wisely, another striker signing may come in handy given that Papiss Cisse is in a run of woeful form and Loic Remy has returned to QPR following his loan spell at the north-east side.
