Real Madrid’s move for Colombian World Cup star James Rodriguez is in some doubt after talks between the Spanish giants and AS Monaco stalled, according to L’Equipe.

The 23-year-old has been widely expected to complete a big-money move to the Bernabeu this week after becoming one of the most sought-after players in Europe following his eye-catching displays for Colombia at this summer’s World Cup.

Widely regarded as one of the best young talents in the game, Rodriguez has been keen to seal a move to his boyhood club Madrid, and personal terms have reportedly been agreed ahead of a potential move to the Champions League winners.

However, the player has now jetted back to Monaco after being spotted in Madrid yesterday, with the two clubs unable to agree on a fee.

The Ligue 1 giants are holding out for around £67m for the skillful attacker, while Real have so far only offered £59m, though it is still widely expected that an agreement will be reached.

After announcing himself on the world stage with his performances in Brazil, Monaco hold out little hope of keeping Rodriguez at the club, despite only signing him from Porto last summer.
