Liverpool reportedly retain an interest in Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema despite the fact that Brendan Rodgers is set to sign both Loic Remy and Divock Origi according to the Daily Mail.

The 26 year old French international may well see his first team chances limited by the likely addition of Colombian James Rodriguez to Carlo Ancelotti’s attack, an attack that must also look to include Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Angel di Maria.

This source asserts that Benzema would set Liverpool back around £40m though would be a solid replacement for Uruguayan Luis Suarez, certainly more so than QPR’s Remy or Lille’s Origi, though his £200k a week wage demands would be tough for the Premier League side to match.

Benzema greatly benefited from the sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli last summer, leaving the former Lyon man to plough a lone furrow as Real Madrid’s first choice central striking option.

The powerful marksman did not disappoint, netting 24 goals in all competitions, Benzema then went on to enjoy a good World Cup during which he scored three goals, missed a spot-kick and also saw another effort ruled out after an over zealous referee blew his whistle mid-attack against Switzerland.
