The Tottenham boss had hoped to lure Croatian Dejan Lovren to White Hart Lane but is appears the 24 year old Anfield bound, but will look to boost his north London squad with the capture of two players who had standout campaigns at the south-coast side last term.

Though Pochettino has a number of defensively minded central midfielders in his Spurs squad he still hopes to land battler Schneiderlin, who is also a target of Tottenham’s local rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham struggled in front of goal last term, with new signings Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado failing to make an impact in their respective debut seasons at the club, and Pochettino is therefore looking to bring in former Burnley man Rodriguez.

Southampton are keen to keep hold of the 24 year old and have offered Rodriguez a five-year contract in the hope he will stay but having seen the likes of Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert leave one imagines the powerful forward may well be considering his options.

Rodriguez netted 15 Premier League goals before an anterior cruciate ligament in April curtailed his season and ruled him out of Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.
