Ligue 1 journalist Jonathan Johnson has confirmed via his Twitter account that Paris Saint-Germain striker and rumoured Manchester United target Edinson Cavani was absent from training today without any reason given.

The Uruguayan international is thought to be unsettled at the Parc des Princes after a difficult first season with the club, when he was often played out of position to accommodate star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It is not yet known if Cavani was definitely scheduled to report back to the club’s training today, but Johnson has explained in a series of tweets that the player has already had extra leave given on his initial 23-day holiday.

A star at his former club Napoli, Cavani would certainly be an exciting signing for United if he is available, even if he hasn’t quite hit top form in his short time in French football.

It is expected that PSG will look to sell some players this summer to adhere to Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations, with more big-name signings still expected to come in as the club look to continue building a world class side to challenge for the Champions League.
