Arsenal have told Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas that they are ready to sign him next summer just so long as he ‘tears up’ his Bernabeu contract according to the Metro.

The 33 year old has barely featured in La Liga action for the past 18 months, with successive managers oddly overlooking the decorated custodian in favour of Diego Lopez, and must therefore be considering his long term options.

Real Madrid are apparently ready to cancel Casillas’s contract which would leave the door open to a free transfer move to the Emirates Stadium, with the north London side ‘unwilling’ to pay a transfer fee for his services.

Such an attitude is a little hard to fathom as Casillas is, by goalkeeping standards, by no means in the latter stages of his career and as such Arsenal would surely be willing to pay a fee of some sort if necessary.

Casillas put in world-class displays during Real Madrid’s run to the Champions League title last term but did produce a fair few blunders during the World Cup finals.

Real Madrid are apparently set to sign Keylor Navas, who is set to arrive from Levante in a £10m deal, further fueling speculation of Casillas’s likely Bernabeu exit.

Wenger is looking to bring in a strong back-up for first choice keeper Wojciech Szczesny with Lukasz Fabianski having left to join Swansea City this summer.

Casillas has completed 15 seasons in the Real Madrid first-team set-up, racking up 678 appearances for the Spanish capital side, winning five La Liga titles and three Champions League winners medals among a host of honours.
